   Stephanie Moore Hand is a lifelong Methodist.  She attended St. Stephens AMEZ, in Morehead City NC, where she participated in numerous ministries. She graduated from West Carteret High School and entered the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on a Women’s basketball athletic scholarship.  She is proud to be a 49er!  

   Stephanie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in the fields of Human Services and Public Relations. Her career began with Marriott Corporation where she quickly climbed the corporate ladder, becoming the Operations Manager at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and soon there after the General Manager at the Little Rock National Airport, in Little Rock Arkansas.  It was during this time that Stephanie joined St. Mark’s United Church and became actively involved in the lay ministries of the church.  Although she continued her climb up the corporate ladder, Stephanie felt that the Lord calling her to take a new direction in her life.  In this vein, she entered Pfeiffer University and earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Education, with specialties in Youth ministries and Christian Education. In the midst of her studies at Pfeiffer, Stephanie received her call to enter into ordained ministry and entered Hood Theological Seminary.  In June of 2011, Stephanie was ordained, as the first African-American Deacon, in the Western North Carolina Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. 

   Stephanie’s work in ministry has led her to serve in a number of capacities.   She had the awesome privilege of serving in extension ministry for Charlotte Family Housing. CFH a non-profit agency, which is presently Charlotte’s only transitional shelter and housing organization that focuses on providing support and assistances to families as they take positive steps towards achieving financial independence and self-reliance. She also served as Minister of Christian Education for Mouzon UMC and a as Ministry Consultant of Christian Education and Leadership Development for the Western North Carolina Annual Conference Ethnic and Justice Ministries.

    Stephanie enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also likes sports events, the beach, the mountains, music and lots of laughter. Most importantly Stephanie loves telling the old, old story of Jesus to a 21st century generation. She is married to Walter “Chip” Hand Jr. and together they have two high energy children, Ashlee (10) and Walter III (8).

    Stephanie currently serves as Associate Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship, a newly created position at Providence UMC.
