Haiti

Providence UMC has a thirty year history of ministry in Haiti.  In 1979, Bill and Alice White, members of Providence, donated a boat to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for use in Haiti.  After sailing the boat to Port-au-Prince and returning home, the Whites were so struck by the dire poverty and suffering of the Haitian people that they became determined to make a difference for their Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ.  Through the years many ministries have grown out of this initial experience.

In 2003 Rev. Pam Carter came to Providence UMC.   Through her leadership and vision, the members of Providence UMC deepened their commitment to the people of Haiti.  Today there are many opportunities for people with various gifts and interests to have their own transformative encounter and impact the people of Haiti.  You too can make a difference.  Teams focus in four areas:  educational and vocational skills, economic development, healthcare, and building.

Our efforts are focused in Cap Haitien, in northern Haiti.  Volunteer teams strive to connect, serve, transform, and sustain these vital ministries with Haitian partners at the grassroots level.  We remain committed to the following Haitian ministries: School of Mercy, Microcredit Program, and The Haiti Mission (Tovar Medical Clinic).
