Eight Christian businessmen joined the father of Billy Graham in 1938, to found the Charlotte Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter for men. The Rebound Program, a men’s residential drug/alcohol program, opened in 1990, followed by the women's counterpart, Dove’s Nest, in 1992. The CRM mission statement is to minister the Good News of Christianity to individuals caught in cycles of poverty, hopelessness and chemical addiction by meeting their spiritual, physical, emotional, social and vocational needs. In 2004, of the 500 men in recovery programs, 74% were homeless. The thirty-day program completion rate is 72% vs a national average of 25%. The ninety-day program completion rate is 41.6% vs a national average of 18%. CRM has space for 130 men; Dove’s Nest accommodates twelve women. A large chapel is available for rental. CRM, a non-profit organization, does not accept government or United Way funds, so relies upon individuals, businesses, foundations, places of worship, special events, and sales from its thrift shop to meet operational expenses. Records show PUMC support in 1990, but individual members were involved earlier. To Share Your Gifts
