Service & Ministries at Providence - Haiti Mission

Haiti Mission

THE HAITI MISSION provides medical care to rural Haitians in the Cap Haitien Circuit of the Haitian Methodist Church. Mission-built medical clinics are served three times a year by teams of doctors, nurses, medical technicians, dentists, and non-professional aides. This widely acclaimed mission began in 1979, when Bill and Alice White donated a boat to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for use in Haiti. The boat was sold in 1984, with 80% of the proceeds reserved for use at the Dondon and Tovar Clinics. In the early years, PUMC members performed construction work. Medical teams from PUMC have made one to five trips per year to minister to Haitians, offering love in the name of Christ. The dedication of PUMC volunteers for over a quarter of a century, is a rare, inspirational testimony of caring, commitment, and courage. Former PUMC Pastor Harley Dickson, now a member of our congregation, wrote The Real Miracle, a book describing the first twenty years of the Haiti Mission.
