Circle #1 This active group meets in homes for fellowship, study and service. We support local missions such as Soup Kitchen and Bethlehem Center. we also pack pills for our long-running Haiti Mission. Programs are decided upon by members and may include a book study or outside speaker Circle #4 Primarily composed of women who work either part-time or fulltime. We offer a variety of programs, such as speakers, crafts and book reviews, along with opportunities for service. We make sandwiches for the Soup Kitchen twice a year, go to Crisis Assistance in April and support other UMW projects. In the summer, we plan social events and enjoy a Christmas party each December. Our emphasis is on creating a friendly and supportive group of Christian friends. Circle #5 The women of Circle 5 have various interests and some work outside the home with part-time jobs in addition to being mothers of young children. Our programs typically involve outside speakers whose topics have either a spiritual focus or more of a secular focus such as children, self-help, missions, etc. The topics are always relevant to women in our small group and phase in life. We also meet socially for dinner every other month and participate in various other outings. Our outreach includes a Habitat House in Fall 2006, donating items for the Bethlehem Center for Adopt-A-Family, Christmas Angels and Camperships. We also have an Annual Book Auction with all proceeds going towards missions. Circle #6 Circle 6 is a service group. Twice a year we go to Crisis Assistance where we sort clothes. We provide items for Room in the Inn, Alexander Children’s Home, Bethlehem Center and Men’s Homeless Shelter. In November we collect non-perishable food items for Bethlehem Center and in December we buy items for the Angel Tree and go to the center to wrap Christmas gifts for the children. Circle #7 The women of Circle 7 enjoy gathering for fellowship and programs that cover various topics. These programs are presented by visiting speakers. We also focus on outreach that supports the missions important to the UMW purpose. Circle #8 Various speakers and topics of study, with a strong emphasis on loving fellowship. Circle #10 Circle 10 is a group of mostly stay-at-home moms who meet on Tuesday mornings. We range in age from about 40 to 50 and most of us have children of elemantary school level and older. Service projects we have done include working fo Crisis Assistance Ministry and Urban Youth Center. We raise money for our projects with our annual book auction, and we enjoy various programs and field trips. For example, this year our circle hosted a speaker from the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit and then went as a group to view the exhibi. We share fellowhip with a Christmas brunch and a luncheon in May. Circle #11 Circle 11 programs consist of spiritual growth, concerns and needs of the community, missions, personal growth and support. We support our members through fellowship, study, prayer, cards, meals, calls and memorials. Circle #12 Members enjoy fellowship, service projects, and Christian based programs that benefit a career woman or homemaker. Our group enjoys fellowship at four social outings a year - two dinner outings, a Christmas party, and a summer event. We participate in various mission projects throughout the year, especially ones that assist families. These include but are not limited to wrapping gifts at Bethlehem Center, working at Crisis Assistance & making sandwiches for the Soup Kitchen. |
United Methodist Women is a global organization of over one million members with a focus on ministering to the needs of women and children. Our purpose is “to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.” Providence UMW General Meetings are held at 10:30 AM, and normally are scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year. Lunch in the atrium follows the program. To sign up for the monthly program, call the UMW Reservation Line at (704) 714-9382. Circles, which are smaller groups with an individual emphasis, also meet monthly to provide time for fellowship as well as study. |
