Our Senior Associate Pastor is a graduate of Wake Forest University and Wake Forest School of Law. After practicing law for several years in Charlotte, he responded to God's call to ordained ministry by entering Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Here he experienced the profound challenge of the church amidst an urban environment. He joined the New York Conference and was ordained an elder in 1986. Bill served St. James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook, New York, and Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe, New York. Upon transferring to Western North Carolina, Bill was appointed to the Todd Charge near Boone. He served Shiloh United Methodist church, Concord, and First United Methodist Church, Gastonia, before returning to Charlotte. From 1993 to 1999, Bill served as Associate Pastor at Myers Park United Methodist Church in the capacity of Congregational Care, Church and Society, and Race and Religion.

Bill serves as pastoral liaison with Stephen Ministry, is a member of the Community Building Initiative, the Jeremiah Coalition, Methodist Counseling Center Board, Communities in Schools, and The Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem. Bill also chairs the Emergency Winter Shelter Steering Committee.

Dr. Jeffries' primary areas of concentration at Providence are Ministries of Outreach (both global and local), spiritual formation ministries, and specific aspects of congregational care including Stephen Ministry. Bill has been on two mission trips to Cuba and has helped to develop an ongoing ministry with the Cuba Council of Churches and Methodist Church of Cuba.

Bill is a native of North Carolina. He and his wife Terri are proud parents of sons Grant, Ross and Sean.
