Educational
Program
Curriculum
Each class has a curriculum that follows the NAEYC guidelines for a developmentally appropriate classroom learning environment. The overall school curriculum enhances the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives. We have a curriculum coordinator to help facilitate planning during monthly teacher meetings. This assures that all teachers in the individual age groups have the necessary information, supplies and support that they need.
Classrooms
Our classrooms are set up in a learning center style. This set-up invites the children to learn at their own pace and comfort level. The centers change according to the curriculum and skill sets that are being emphasized.

Field
Trips
Since preschool children in the state of
NC must have car seats that are properly fitted to their
own height and weight, we at PUMCWS have chosen to have
our field trips come to us. During the school year many
opportunities are given to broaden the children's world.
Some of the field trips brought into the school are:
- The
Science Lady
- My
Gym
- Mr.
Music
- Story
Café
-
Ms.
Manners Etiquette Classes
- Play
Spanish (for the transitional kindergarten class)
- Roger
Day (a National known children's recording artist)
- Community
Helpers (such as the firefighters, police, doctors,
dental hygienist)
Staff
Forty
eight highly trained individuals make up the staff of
PUMCWS. Led by Anna Shulstad, Director (Bio under staff
at www.providenceumc.org) our teachers' first requirement
is a genuine love for young children. Teachers must also
have prior paid experience in a field of early childhood.
They must pass a strict background check. Preference
is given to teachers with a college degree especially
in the field of early childhood education or a related
field. Teachers must fulfill continuing education classes
each year and should hold current CPR and First Aid certifications.

| Besides
learning to live from day to day in a world created by a loving
God, formal times of Christian Education
are taught as a vital part of the day at PUMCWS either in the
classroom, at Chapel time, Tiny Chapel or at Church Chat.
Three year olds, four year olds and our transitional kindergarten
class attend Chapel once a month in the sanctuary. At another
time during the month these children attend Church Chat where
the director or the assistant director lead the children in
songs of praise and a story related to the monthly Biblical
theme. Two year old children attend Tiny Chapel once a month
in our small Chapel. |
