Providence UMC Becomes A SafePlace
   As part of our 2012 missions focus on children in poverty, Providence UMC is now a SafePlace for teens.  If a teen is worried about his or her safety, he or she can come to our church during regular business hours and we will call The Relatives.  The Relatives is a crisis shelter just for youth.  Their social workers will do anything they can to help teens in trouble.  After business hours, teens will find a blue card at our doors with directions on how to send a text message for help.  Our Welcome Desk volunteers, staff, and Weekday School staff are in training this month to welcome these youth to our church home.  Thanks in advance to our congregation for extending God’s love to teens in need.  Please contact Carol Shinn at  cshinn@providenceumc.org with questions.

Room in the Inn begins December 6—We will welcome fourteen homeless guests into our church home three nights a week, throughout the coldest months of the year.  At Providence we move beyond just providing shelter to offering warm meals, friendship, laundry, and shower facilities. 

Rev. John Fitzgerald will become our church’s twelfth Senior Pastor, succeeding Ken Carter, who is assuming a role as District Superintendent of the Waynesville District.

Rev. Stephanie Hand will join our staff as the new Associate Minister for Evangelism and Discipleship.

Bishop Larry Goodpaster has asked me, Ken Carter, to consider a new assignment following annual conference in June, and I have accepted this invitation. I will serve as a District Superintendent in our annual conference; the name of the next Senior Pastor of Providence UMC will become public in the very near future.
