The Music Ministry of Providence has long been known as a leader in church music and in training leaders in worship. There are many opportunities for service for all ages, and new participants are always welcome. This “capstone” ensemble of our music ministry rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Rehearsal Auditorium (D022) and leads worship at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. throughout the year. Along with the standards of traditional choral repertoire, this group presents larger works each year in the annual Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert. (Adam Ward, director)
A choir for “seasoned” adults or any who enjoy singing, Encore choir rehearses every Thursday (September through May) in room D-022. The choir occasionally leads worship at 8:30. As part of community outreach, this group sings for Retirement communities. A low-pressure, high-enjoyment group, we welcome anyone who would like to be a part! (Adam Ward, director)
The Youth Choir is an extraordinary group of sixth through twelfth graders who perform great music at a high level of excellence. This ensemble rehearses on Sunday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Rehearsal Auditorium (D022), and they occasionally lead worship at 8:30 as well as special Sundays at both services throughout the year. The Youth Choir performs a musical event each spring as a fundraiser for their summer trip to Montreat Music and Worship Conference in the mountains of North Carolina. (Adam Ward, director)
The Cherub choirs rehearse from 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (Cherub A: 4-year- olds) and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 pm. (Cherub B: 5-year-olds) on Wednesday afternoons. These fun choirs for our children lay a musical foundation for being in the older children’s choirs. The Cherubs sing for the Children’s Christmas Pageant and occasionally at other times during the year. (Debby Reger, director) Room D-021.
The Wesley Choir the teaching of musical rudiments and worship leadership continues. The choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in room D022 in the Sanctuary undercroft. This wonderful group of children leads worship at 11:00 a.m. once each month (September through April.) (Charlotte Judge, director)
Junior Choir builds on the foundations that are taught through Cherub and Wesley Choirs - to sing with beauty and understanding as they lead in worship. These children rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Rehearsal Auditorium (D022), and they lead 11:00 a.m. worship once each month (September through April.) Junior Choir also attends an overnight weekend choir retreat with other area churches each spring. (Charlotte Judge, director)
The Providence Handbell Ringers rehearse each Thursday evening from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the Handbell Rehearsal Room (D015) in the Sanctuary undercroft. The group leads in worship occasionally throughout the year and attends the Mid-Carolinas Handbell festival each fall. While this group has a limited number of ringers, those interested should certainly let the music office know! (Adam Ward, director)

Each year, during the summer, our music ministry offers a week-long music camp for children in second through sixth grades. During the week, the children learn a musical which they present as leaders in worship the following Sunday morning. Classes in arts and crafts as well as off-school work are offered as part of a comprehensive arts educational event. (Charlotte Judge, coordinator)
For over 30 years, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra musicians have made Providence United Methodist Church their home for performing Chamber music. Once a month, September through May, these wonderful musicians offer their time and talents to present world-class performances of repertoire from every musical era.
