Fight Food Insecurity in Charlotte with Nourish Up!
We accept no excuses for our neighbors going hungry.
Everyone has been affected by rising food costs. But in Charlotte, over 200,000 facing food insecurity on a daily basis can least absorb the increase, nearly 25% being children and seniors. In addition, recent news of government cutbacks to key programs like USDA, SNAP, TEFAP, and CSFP, has devastated the Charlotte food supply by 35%. And, cuts to WIC have made the household food costs increase even more. Nourish Up announced that Food Drives cannot compensate for the loss in nutritious frozen food, fresh produce, and dairy. As a result, Nourish Up must purchase more food from wholesalers, increasing their budget. Nourish Up already had to suspend other programs due to a lack of supply (and funds to cover the difference). The PUMC Mission Council is committed to our current mission strategy Home-Table-Planet, to address issues such as housing, food, and earth care. Therefore, PUMC stands in a unique position to make a significant impact in the lives of people the world overlooks by giving a large, one-time donation that will help mitigate the severity of food insecurity to seniors living in poverty, working families on the edge of financial stability, veterans who served our country, and all those for whom an unexpected medical expense will break an already tight budget. Consider giving generously to our Christmas Eve offering to feed our neighbors.
