Connections in Christ is a new ministry for the 55+ community (although all ages are welcome).
Programs will be held on the third Tuesday of each month in Providence UMC’s Atrium. These gatherings will include fellowship, refreshments, a speaker, and music.

What is Realm? Realm is our church’s new online connection hub, designed to help us stay connected and organized as a faith community. For many years, we have used ACS Technologies as our online directory and administrative system. As ACS is becoming obsolete and transitioning its users to Realm, we are moving to Realm as our primary platform.
Realm will help us nurture relationships, organize ministries, and manage important aspects of church life. Whether you’re joining a small group, updating your contact information, or checking your Giving Record, Realm makes it easier to stay engaged. One of Realm’s most important roles is serving as our most accurate, up-to-date church directory, helping us remain connected with one another.
How does it work? Our staff creates profiles for all our members at Providence, but you get to personalize and maintain it. If you do not know how to access your profile, contact the church office and we will help you get set up.
Who’s in Realm? Every church member has a unique profile—a digital extension of your place in our beloved community. Your profile helps fellow members recognize you, connect over shared interests, join groups, or even send a friendly message.

Can you picture Providence in 2031? If you could envision the future, what would it look like? Our church is embarking on an exciting visioning process that involves our congregation’s support and participation. This is one of the most ambitious and important initiatives of our church, as it will impact every area of ministry and set our course for years to come. A Strategic Planning Committee has already been formed, gathering minds from across our congregation to help actively guide this process to completion and implementation.

winter retreat! We are going back to Winterplace, West Virginia January 30th-February 1st. We will be staying at Glade Springs Resort. Registration closes a week before we leave (1/25) as we need to make sure we have enough vehicles, and provide information to the equipment rental company. There are lots of options for everyone whether you are into winter sports or not. Below is a list of all the things to do while we are there:
-Ski/snowboard
-Tube

On Friday, January 30 at 7 PM, our Music Ministry will host the second David Bashor Memorial Organ Concert of the season, featuring Clara Gerdes. Originally from Davidson, NC, Clara studied organ at the Curtis Institute of Music (undergraduate) and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (graduate). While she has won numerous competitions around the United States, the Charlotte organist community is proud to claim her as a Stigall Scholar here at home. Clara’s concert will feature organ music that centers around Marian music—that is music that has to do with Mary, the mother of Jesus. Plan now to attend this concert and to bring a friend. Providence UMC is the place to be for music, especially for free performances by world-class musicians!
Exciting news! Providence United Methodist Women (UMW) changed its General Meetings schedule to meet four times a year instead of every month.
Save the date! The first UMW General Meeting of 2026 will take place on Tuesday, February 3 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel. Wanda Musgrave will share insights and recollections on Lake Junaluska and the UMC, told through photos and artifacts with help from Church Archivist Christopher Lawing. Lunch will follow in the Annex for those with reservations (more details to come).

As followers of Jesus Christ, we’re called to be disciples. But what exactly does it mean to be a “disciple” in The United Methodist Church? Pastor Randy will be facilitating a study of James Harnish’s book, A Disciple’s Path, which answers this question based on the five-part membership vow made by persons joining the UMC – to participate faithfully in the church’s ministries by one’s prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. If you’re a new member of Providence, or if you’re thinking about joining, or if you’ve been a member for years and would like a refresher on discipleship, this study is for you!
Sessions will be on Thursdays at 6:30 PM beginning February 26 and will run for six-weeks through Holy Week. The sessions will be about two hours in length and will be by Zoom. All men are invited to join the regional United Methodist Men (UMM) group for an outreach opportunity with Beds for Kids on Saturday, January 10 from 9 to 11 AM. The address is 4200 Revolution Park Drive, Charlotte NC 28203. Our tasks will include assembling beds, organizing furniture, and loading trucks for future deliveries. Each year, Providence UMC dedicates 100% of the Christmas Eve Offerings to making a big impact for God’s Kingdom. This year’s Christmas Eve Offering will address the food insecurity crisis in Charlotte.
The Mission Council seeks to make meaningful changes in the lives of those the world overlooks. Nourish Up helps families in Mecklenburg County facing food insecurity by providing groceries. Click HERE to learn more about the organization.

The Longest Night, a service of comfort and spiritual support for those who are walking through grief, loneliness, loss, hopelessness, or who are just feeling a little down during the Christmas Season, or desire a quiet & contemplative experience, will be held on Sunday, December 21 at 6:30 PM in the Chapel.
Providence UMC, Dilworth UMC, St. Francis UMC, and St. Stephen UMC have a collective men's fellowship group. This group meets quarterly. Dilworth UMC (605 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203) is hosting the next meeting at 6 PM on Thursday, December 11. The free event will include a meal and a program. During the Sunday school hour on December 7, all are invited to join for "A Night in Bethlehem". Costumed characters will discuss their trades and share stories about that special night when Jesus was born. We will begin downstairs in the Mission Center.

The Twenty-eighth Annual Providence United Methodist Women's (UMW) Christmas Dinner & Program will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at 6 PM in Wolfe Hall. After dinner and the UMW Special Pin Recognition Service, a program of Christmas music will be presented by the Envoys, a Charlotte Gospel Quartet.

The season of Advent began on Sunday, November 30! Advent kits are ready and available for pickup in the Atrium! These kits are filled with resources that all ages can enjoy while preparing for the arrival of our Savior.

A Charge Conference is planned for Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 PM in Room A102-104 here at Providence UMC. A Church Council meeting will follow. All are welcome. (Voting members of the Charge Conference are the members of the Church Council, as well as retired ordained clergy and diaconal ministers whose membership is with Providence UMC.)
You are invited to Living with Loss During the Holidays, this Sunday, November 16, at 4 PM in the Chapel. The Reverend Walt Windley, a chaplain with VIA Heath Partners/Hospice care, will lead this special gathering. After a candle lighting ceremony and inspirational message, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments.
On Veterans Day this year, PUMC will recognize and honor its veterans in a special way. In conjunction with Connections in Christ, on Tuesday, November 11, there will be a special program in the Atrium beginning at 10 AM. All members of PUMC and guests are invited, along with veterans and their families.
The program will begin with a Scottish hymn, Rowan Tree, played by our bagpiper and will feature two speakers: Danica Thomas, widow of a combat veteran and Nick Johnson, a combat veteran who will be bringing his service dog, Buddy. The program will end with the singing of Battle Hymn of the Republic by all in attendance. Delicious refreshments will be available.
Please join the festivities and help thank our veterans for their service and their sacrifice.

On Sunday, October 5, we will celebrate and bless our animal friends in a Blessing of the Animals service at 2 PM in the grassy field behind Wolfe Hall. You are invited to bring your furry, feathered or scaled family members to be blessed at this meaningful and brief service where we will share a song, some scripture, and smiles all around. We do ask that you ensure that your pet is on a leash or in a carrier.
Family Retreat at Camp Tekoa will take place October 3 - 5, 2025.

A Providence Chamber Music Recital will be held in the Sanctuary, Sunday, September 14 at 6:30 PM. The program, Borodin and The Quartet, will feature Alexander Borodin’s Quartet No. 2 in D major for Strings. Please plan to attend and invite a friend! It will be a lovely night of music!
On Sunday, September 14, we will host our 22nd Rise Against Hunger (RAH) meal packaging event! RAH is an organization that addresses those in immediate need of food and responds to global natural and man-made crises, including droughts, floods, conflict zones, and transitioning political situations. It will be held in the Mission Center and will start at noon, right after our worship services. Not only is this event great for individuals, but it is also great for the entire family.
We will pack 20,000 meals, which means we'll need at least 80 volunteers. So, please sign up to help make it happen. To volunteer, please click HERE. We are so excited about the new Music Ministry program year, and we are hopeful that your child(ren) will be here to jump into the fall with us as we raise our voices (safely) in song, learn about how and why we worship, and learn music rudiments through games, singing and playing instruments. The Providence UMW will meet on Tuesday, September 2 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel. The guest speaker will be Andrea Aldridge, the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Charlotte Rescue Mission. The Charlotte Rescue Mission (CRM) is a free men's (Rebound) and women's (Dove's Nest) recovery program with a dedicated staff that helps residents understand and cope with the core issues of addiction. Andrea's goal is to spread awareness that anyone can be helped through the Charlotte Rescue Mission programs. A CRM resident will also be here to tell her inspiring story. Please join us for this special meeting with one of PUMC's long-time mission partners.
