Special Guest Musician July 19

On July 19 in our traditional services of worship, we will be joined in worship leadership by Cantor Shira Lissek from Temple Israel right down Providence Road. Some of you may remember Cantor Lissek singing for us during the COVID lockdown when we were only worshiping by livestream. We are most excited to have her in worship with us again!

Before joining Temple Israel, Cantor Lissek served as Associate Cantor at Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City. Cantor Lissek has performed at national events, including the FDNY 9/11 Memorial Service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the ADL's Hidden Child Foundation Anniversary, and the Governor's Hanukkah Celebration. She is a founding member of the North Carolina Jewish Clergy Association and serves on the board of the Greenspon Social Action and Holocaust Education Foundation at Queens University. She is also a frequent performer and collaborator in the wider Charlotte arts community, including with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and at Middle C Jazz.

Cantor Lissek earned her master’s degree in music from the Manhattan School of Music and her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Indiana University School of Music. She is the proud mom of Reuben and Maayan and feels deeply honored to share the joy and spirit of Jewish music with the Temple Israel and Charlotte community.

You will not want to miss her beautiful voice as she sings—along with our Chancel Choir—a gorgeous setting of the Hebrew text Ma Tovu which celebrates coming into the courts of the Lord to worship God. She will also lead in other parts of worship as well. Come and worship on the 19th as we celebrate coming together as God’s many people worshipping together.
